Education and the War on Freedom

If you have been here for any amount of time, you will undoubtedly know that I am a trained educator who works with students and families through my private tutoring business.

In light of everything going on and the thirst for a more traditional education unquenched for millions of American families, I decided to do something about it.

We, as a nation and people have been through so much over the past 2 years, mostly by the hand of a government who has tilted their hand and shown where their true allegiances lie; and it’s not with the American people or their families.

I try very hard to keep politics off of this platform, but I feel that I can no longer stay silent while the wolves are at the door.

I’m not an alarmist or doomsday person, but what I am is a historian who studies the trends of empires and civilization and find what I have been seeing very disturbing.

Worst of all has been the war on our nation’s children waged by those who feel they have unlimited power over your life and that you owe them some sort of blind allegiance to them simply for the “privilege” of being graced by their presence.

Well, I hate to tell you, but I’m done being silent while the wicked taint our beautiful American Republic, founded on the principles of freedom for all and the education to facilitate that freedom. As Epictetus, the Greek philosopher said, “Only the educated are free.”

This quote and the principles embodied by it are the reason I’m writing to you, my amazing Treadling Nation. The people who support the ideas of being self sufficient and contributing to your communities through traditional American values that we all should share.

The words of Epictetus and his fellow stoic philosophers rang through the ages to the creation of this nation and laid the foundation on which this countries culture would be built. A culture steeped in the free pursuit to live a life that you feel is worth living, without being held back by your station of birth or lack of access to an education.

This nation we live in is the most free and equal society to ever grace the earth and it needs to be presented this way to our children.

I’m not going to pretend that America is free from the critical eye of history. As we all know, whenever the innately flawed man rules, there will be sin. This is true for any institution or nation in history. I’m not telling you that the government of the United States has never done absolutely horrible things, because it has; but what I am saying is that the founding fathers created this nation with the ideals firmly engrained into it’s founding, fully knowing that people would fall short of those ideals.

However, they provided us with ways to repent for our discretions and inadequacies when it comes to upholding the idealistic principles that would ultimately define this nation. If you encroach on the freedoms of others, you have yours removed until you have served penance, through the judicial system, and then you are able to return to civil society. If you commit crimes against your fellow citizens, you pay in time taken from your life in the form of jail time or worse.

Elected officials are not supposed to be exempt from these laws or processes to obtain justice.

We have created, through conditioning facilitated through the state run public education system, the notion that politicians and captains of industry are above the law and should be held outside of it for the betterment of a civil society.

Well, I still hold these truths to be self evident:

that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. 

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,

 That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed

With this information as the premise and the love for our nation, my own child and all the children of this great nation in my heart, I have established One-Room Education.

One-Room Education is on a mission to empower parents, students and teachers to work together to ensure a more free and prosperous future for everyone. It is focused on the education system within the United States, but the principles of freedom and the idea that every single citizen of the world is entitled to a classical education so that they can learn to think for themselves and discern what is best for them and their own families without fear of backlash from over reaching political monstrosities that call themselves public teacher’s unions and career politicians.

One-Room Education is working to bring you voices from around the country, from all industries and trades and share with you, the discerning public, what they really needed from their education to be successful and what they learned after they realized how much they had to learn on their own after graduating from public institutions.

In addition to the One-Room Education blog, I am also hosting The State of Education Podcast, presented by One-Room Education. It is a weekly program where I present a different issue within the education system and give you the history behind it, how it impacts the education of students today, then I finally give you, the listener, practical steps and actions that you can take to help rectify the issues addressed in that episode.

I’ve always said that I wanted to help as many people as I can to live the life they choose freely and help to show them how, whether that is starting and maintaining a working homestead of any size or ensure that our nation’s youth get the education they are entitled too.

I feel that One-Room Education is a platform that is desperately needed to help ensure the future of a FREE America. I started TreadlingHome to help further that idea and now I’m going to be focusing my efforts on getting the word out about One-Room Education and the amazing benefit I believe it can be to ensuring the future that I want my son to be given.

I hope that you will join me on this new journey over there and I can’t wait to see the impact we can have when we all come together as Americans and work toward a common goal, freedom and prosperity for all through equal access to a classical education and the implementation of true American grit.
